ON THE
level

I was born in Shanghai and came to the United States when I was five. I grew up in Palo Alto and attended Stanford University, then Washington University in St. Louis for medical school.

I’ve been a plastic surgeon for 27 years. I entered this discipline because I appreciate beauty, and think the human body is beautiful. Beauty, of course, is as much about how you look as how you feel, and what I love most is helping others look and feel beautiful — that is, helping others to love themselves. That’s why I do what I do.

I Had This Idea …

As a surgeon, I cut, shape, and sculpt the face, the body — and I’m always blown away by its ability to heal, to regenerate, to make itself new. Your body is truly a miracle — and I don’t mean that in a sappy-love-song kind of way. I mean that the body is the most efficient, astoundingly clever, self-regenerating machine of all time. The most advanced artificial intelligence cannot hold a candle to the simple, natural elegance of the human form.

The problem is that we don’t treat our bodies — and specifically our skin — with the respect and care it deserves. In my 27 years as a surgeon, I’ve seen thousands of patients. Countless women (and men) have asked about the off-the-shelf beauty regimens they’ve seen on store shelves and used — and one is worse than the last.

The best products are born from our own personal experiences. My skin needed retinol with all its science and data promising smooth forever firmness, but I couldn’t tolerate ANY retinol products. My skin tends toward sallowness, yet I couldn’t find any safe products I could use long term to maintain a petal fresh undertone.

After nearly three decades, I couldn’t take it anymore — I wanted better for us, for myself, for you. That’s why I created Private Practice by Dr. Koo.

PRIVATE PRACTICE

BY Dr. Michele Koo

Of course, creating breakthrough medical-quality formulas, using potent ingredients and delivering great outcomes are critical. But equally as important and meaningful is creating a positive, uplifting experience. For me, it’s all about how you make people feel. It’s that simple and that hard.

High science doesn’t need to be sterile!

I believe that first and foremost the best – and most successful - outcomes happen when your patient - or in this case client - feels like you’re on their side. And that’s where I begin.

I practice the lost art of “personal medicine.” Today doctors have only a few minutes to spend with each patient, and it’s easier to just to write a prescription for something that will instantly relieve your symptoms. Personal medicine treats people and patients like individuals who have their own special needs.

I’m not going to tout some miracle cure. The latest and greatest ingredient. Or recommend some off-the-shelf, one-and-done approach. I’m not here to change the way you look. I am here to help truly heal your skin and enhance the beauty that you already have. Skin health first, the beauty will follow.

That’s why every recommendation I make is based on a consultation. For me it is – as it has always been - about creating real beauty that suits your personality, your lifestyle, your individual goals and expectations along with your persona. I want to understand your wants and needs. And connect the dots.

And because every woman starts from her own baseline, I customize your program and provide step-wise concentrations and ingredient differentiation for a stepladder to success. This is the essence of my “Skin Kind” approach – which means you get the right products in the right concentration at the right time in the right sequence. So you never have to worry about irritation or an adverse reaction.

I don’t dummy-down my recos. And I’ll always explain the how’s and why’s of my formulas. Curious or confused about something? Just ask.

Net-net: my personal prescription for achieving great skin is simple and personal. Heal with your heart. In other words: CARE. Connect. Act. Respect. Empower.

Can't wait to be there for you and help guide you through your skin care journey!

With gratitude,

Dr. Koo
